Learn Japanese, Spanish, or Chinese?!?!

Posted by BoMToons - May 23rd, 2014

My good friends who helped make Nephi's Adventure 1 and Nephi's Adventure 2 have started a new business to teach people to speak other languages! It's called Lexikeet Learning!

They recently released an interactive story book here on NG to help get the word out about what they're doing. Play it here:

Plz leave them some feedback on what you think of their efforts!

If you want some more info, check out their quick pitch video:

In other news, I got game controller input working in Super Chibi Knight using the new as3 GameInput class. I'm considering writing up a quick tutorial on it because it was tough to find simple straightforward implementation examples. Here's an SCK pic to get your mouth watering :-D

What controller do you use to play Steam/PC Games? Tell me in the comments!

Some folks really like the run Playstation controllers but they have to work harder for it. Large majority rolls with a 360 pad it seems. I prefer mouse and keyboard but on games where it's smoother or more logical to use a controller, I also go with the 360 controller.

What do the Playstation controllers have to do extra to work with most games?

Simple, really. Most games don't have integration for it and so you have to use third party software to my understanding to make it work with your game. I'm not sure if you have to go out of your way for drivers or not. It's not like it's impossible or anything. But with 360 controllers, on Windows PCs at least, it's a simple plug and play for most games.

But I think Playstation controller players are a minority. I'd have to think so, since no game seems designed with them in mind outside of emulators.

Ok, that's about what I'd expect... use some key mapping software to simulate key presses from the keyboard or something. I'm thinking I'll support the xbox control scheme by default but let people customize keyboard controls if they need to.

I've heard similar things Mr. Undead has spoke of... Xbox and Microsoft are the same company, and both lean towards PC gear. Myself, I prefer the Playstation controller, but really, I was using a keyboard and mouse before most NGers were born lol.

Japan is on it's way out (radiologically and reproductively speaking), China looks like it's gearing up for a war... Spanish seems like the best of those 3 options, unless the Chinese wanna come here to collect their trillion dollars of US Security bonds :\

Spanish seems most useful in the US, especially the western US, but a significant portion of the world speaks chinese and there's still lots of industry coming out of china for people who want to tap into that. Japanese, I think, is mostly for the Anime/Videogame crowd these days.

Ooh, they have gamepad support now? I'm totally adding that to my next game. :D

Yeah, it was only working for android for a long time, but in latest flashplayer it should work now.

Spanish, It's a given considering the demographics of the US of A.

Agreed!

sixaxis/dualshock 3

i think the DS4 has a way better d-pad though

Is that a logitech? Does it simulate xbox 360 button/axis mapping?

XBox360 pad. The screenshot looks really awesome!

Nice, I got you covered then! Thanks for the encouragement :-D

Wireless Xbox 360 with a receiver. I hope you do that tutorial, because I have been planning to add controller support to a game I'm working on, and it would be extremely helpful to have a tutorial. Also Spanish I'm taking classes for the next two semesters and could use the extra help.

Nice! I'm still wrapping my head around the gamecontroller stuff code, but once I'm confident I'll post something about it.

Japanese is probably the most useful for being in the game industry. Also, when I PC game, I tend to stick with an Xbox 360 controller.

Arigato!
