COOL THING

Posted by BoMToons - January 1st, 2009

It's been a while since I've made a news post, life is busy.

Here's a short note on something cool I came up with for an upcoming game with Luis:

I have a certain part of the game looking to a text file stored on my site for some variables and such that then determine what's displayed in that section. Basically it's a way I can keep updating that section of the game even after it's been stolen from NG and spread all over the web, thus providing players with regularly updated new game content post-game-release. It works on a similar principle as the NG FlashAPI but is not nearly as complex and is customized to my specific needs. The idea will also make use of NG user-pages to let players participate in the regular updates.

This is probably not a new idea, but I haven't seen it in many flash games that weren't full-on multiplayer and hopefully it extends the "virtual shelf-life" and face time of this particular game.

Sorry for the vague generalities, more details to follow when the game is released sometime this month (hopefully).

EDIT: Here's what it's like for Luis and me to work together (especially the teaching me to dance part) -

Sounds quite cool.
Albeit, a little vague =P

I suppose we'll find out how cool it is when the time comes.

What I'm particularily interested in is the last part of your description, about using user-pages. I hope to see that come into fruition, whatever you may mean by it!

The userpage thing isn't too outstanding, but hopefully will be cool.

sounds good, but you are not the first one to come with that idea, i m doing something similar using XML, good luck and i looking forward to see that game

XML bah humbug! :-P

Here's an idea... create a code that allows you to import the full code of teh game from a text file and run that, and then whenever there is a glitch in your game mod the code that the other code runs, capiche?

I know it would be extremely hard to have anything work like that, but it's worth a thought >:)

Yeah, I can't imagine pulling off something that crazy, maybe glaiel or gust could though...or YOU!

For coolios idea you'd need to interpret the code, so basically you'd need to create a scripting language and script your entire game in that. It would be a fun project but totally not worth the effort.

Good idea with your game, yeah it's nothing new but it's a very underused thing :) Looking forward to the juego.

Yeah, I guess you're one of the guys that could pull off the whole remotely coded game thing too...maybe it would be good as an AS challenge in the forums or something.

who is this luis guy.. he sounds handsome.

he is a legendary warrior

if its the game I think it is then Im looking forward to it very much

It might be, but then again Luis posts lots of fake game demos on his userpage. I'm pretty sure you'll like this one :)

The odd couple.

Updated the post just for youuuuu!

That should be really cool...

Yeah, I bet you always have to pick up Luis's used cigs.
