It started on facebook. Poke.

Oh, that makes a lot more sense now. THANKS!

What the china man said.

Why did the hipster burn his mouth?

A miserable little pile of secrets!

He ate his dinner before it was cool.

Gameboy games first, then the cartoon. Pokémon owned by Nintendo. It's still going, there's a more anime-esque series going on now tightly linked with the newer Pokémon videogames.

The essensce of its attractiveness? GOTTA CATCH (buy) 'EM ALL!

We called that he-man in my day...

It started as a game. There's no way a game based on a tv show would be that good. Also I THINK it wasn't as popular in japan as many thought to believe considering how popular it was in the US

most stuff based on games sucks too though

also how you holdin up bruv?

For drizzle.

it's got like, monster on fire n' shit.

ah, I see

he uses an umbrella cus he got a rolly on his arm, hes pourin sean don and he rolls the best weed and he wants to keep gettin it on

he probably has his posse hold the umbrella while he's doing all that

It started as a game, then Japan fuckin' EXPLODED into a giant marketing campaign to make it the next big thing. And it worked. Toys, Trading Card games, TV shows, movies...alll starting from Pokemon Blue and Red on Gameboy. The whole premise of it being you're a Pokemon (which means Pocket Monster) Trainer, and you set out to become a Pokemon Master, capturing a bunch of elemental, empowered creatures, and essentially fighting other trainers to level up your monsters, teaching them new abilities as they level up, and sometimes evolving into whole new monsters. It was a big deal even by just Gameboy's standards, because Blue and Red sometimes had creatures that were exclusive from each other, so you could trade Pokemon with other kids that had the different game. It was very in depth and addictive, but with each incarnation they keep adding hundreds of new Pokemon to keep the franchise fresh, and kids get lost into it's consumerism depths.

It's marketed pretty brilliantly from their standpoint. Internationally, the franchise has been going on for over 10 years, and it's still running strong. I outgrew it after playing and beating Pokemon Blue way back when on the Gameboy Color...others are not so fortunate.

That was informative. Thanks for laying that out so clearly and concisely.

...Also...is the face on that drawing supposed to be the black guy that blew up Cyberdyne in Terminator 2?

it sure does look like him: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm060801 2/

Catching all the Pokemon is as much about chance as it is about skill, and being comfortable in the knowledge of the game. Much like a casino, but for kids!

The original Pokemon games for Gameboy were made by Game Freak, whos only previous developed games were Mendel Palace and YOSHI for the NES. Now they are billionaires.

I actually prefer the Bill Cosby theorem.

Penismon?

To make it simple, it's a japanese games where you get to catch pokemon and use them to battle other people with their pokemons.

You also have the adventage of leveling up your pokemons by fighting with them.

If you think your strong enough, you can then go to Gyms where you can fight the Gym leader (in other words, one of the best pokemon trainer in the GAME).

After that, you have to beat the Elite Four (4 people in a row) and THEN, fight the Pokemon Champion, the toughest guy to beat in the game. If you win, you get to be the new pokemon champion.

In other words, it's a game made by fu**ed-up japanese who got drunk while sniffing cocaine.

It started as a trading-card game, then the shows, then the games. I think.

You gotta be kidding. How did you even avoid Pokemon? It's ubiquitous!

Pokemon is one of those things that doesn't go bad.
It just keeps getting better, like cheeto puffs

Cock fighting meets Charles Darwin.

its popular because there are 14 year old girls who can obsess over it. Same reason they are selling still jack skelington stuff for a 20 year old film. Girls have some Freudian thing going on when they play it that makes them all wet for it.
