maybe, the gameplay would still be 2d, but the sprites could be rendered in 3d.

I've heard of shoot'em-ups, but never shmups. I'm also too lazy to look up what it means. Is a shmup the same thing as a shoot'em'up, or is it specific to the you-are-in-a-ship-and-you-have-to-avo id-millions-of-bullets game area?

Shoot 'em up (also known as shmup) is a subgenre of shooter video games. In a shoot 'em up, the player controls a lone character, often a spacecraft, shooting large numbers of enemies while dodging their attacks. The genre in turn encompasses various types or subgenres and critics differ on exactly what design elements constitute a shoot 'em up. Some restrict the definition to games featuring spacecraft and certain types of character movement; others allow a broader definition including characters on foot and a variety of perspectives. Shoot 'em ups call for fast reactions and for the player to memorise levels and enemy attack patterns. Newer "bullet hell" games feature overwhelming amounts of enemy projectiles, the patterns of which the player must memorise in order to avoid.

well you see, like Osuka i use a 3d program called 3d student max which is also one of the worlds most used animation tool of the century.

i cant animate in flash because im not skilled in art that much...so i wish to be one of newgrounds few 3D animators once i finished up a couple of projects i have yet to render to flash : /

you'd just have to export them as some sort of transparent bitmap like gif or png to be imported into the flash engine

I just realized, if this game has both horizontal and vertical scrolling levels, you're gonna make a mockery of our new genre system! I guess it could be categorized under whatever the majority of the levels are, and it will still show up under the main shooters category...
